About my story and my research
We can use different tools to understand the evolution of vertebrates. Biological collections, for instance, play an essential role as reservoir to obtain data and elucidate all the processes that shaped the life on Earth.
After completing my BSc (2011–2015) in the Federal University of Pernambuco (Brazil) and MSc (2016–2018) at the Federal University of Paraíba (Brazil), I started my PhD at the University of the Andes (Colombia) (2021–current). Today, I am a visitor fellow in Bern, Switzerland.
I started my research journey working on synecology and functional ecology. Finally, during the PhD, I could start investigating the processes that act on the evolution of Neotropical species. Currently, I work on the evolution of the harlequin toads (Bufonidae: Atelopus) through genomics and morphology.
Here, in Bern, I am evaluating the role of the elevation on the evolution of Atelopus morphology. More specifically, I want to understand the morphology diversification of the genus. My work consists in obtaining morphological data from species housed in diferents collections of Europe, North and South America and analyse it through climatic and elevational data. I am an ESKAS (2024-2025) fellow funded by the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students.
